Last weekend Helen and I had the joy of ministering at Equippers Wanganui. I came to realisation while we were there,, that 31 years ago last February we arrive in Wanganui to plant the church. A lot has happened since then.
We had an amazing weekend with Equippers Wanganui, and Pastor Patrick and Bronwyn Coneglan, have continued to build on the vision we saw.
In the photo we have Ps Pat, his three boys, and granddad

OUR ULTIMATE DESTININATION
Today we arrive at our place of destination on our journey through the fourteen Psalms of Ascent.
To stand in God's House, totally surrendered in praise and worship, is an amazing place to be. As we lift up Holy Hands to the God of all creation, our redeemer and Lord we are enthroning Him in our midst, and this is when He loves to display His incredible power and glory.
The Holy Spirit is constantly drawing us into this place, because He loves to Glorify Jesus Christ.
Bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord, who by night stand in the House of the Lord!

THE POWER OF UNITY
Unity exists in an environment where we acknowledgement the need for Godly order and other peoples gifting. This is where God love to pour out His blessings in abundance.
David proclaimed in Psalm 133, “this is where the Lord commands His blessing and life forever more.”
If we are to maintain unity, we must be prepared to gabble with issues and not people. So often issues are personalised, and therefore lose the strength of unity.
We cannot succeed in the purposes of God while staying in place of isolation. In 1 Corinthian 12
Paul explains the importance of the body working together as every joint supplies.
On our journey of ascent, it is important that we link together with others in, and then watch what God will do.

THE LORD HAS CHOSEN HIS CHURCH
David's heart was to build a dwelling place for God. God no longer dwells in building made by the human hands, but he dwells in the hearts of men and His church.
Verses 13-18 Describes the House of God as place:
On our journey of ascent, plant yourself in the House of God, because the word of God promises your life will be vibrant and full.

TRUE HUMILITY OPENS OUR HEART TO GOD
David had a good assessment of himself. In this Psalm he says that "his heart is not proud, nor his life lofty, nor did he live above himself. Therefore his soul is at ease and he lives free from the pressure of striving for recognition.
A person who has a heart of humility towards God, 'does not think less of oneself but thinks of oneself less.'
On our journey of ascent may we live with a heart of humility towards God, because when we do we are empowered with God's amazing grace.

COUNT IT ALL JOY WHEN YOU ARE TESTED.
As the plough of testing tears up the soul and scares with deep furrows, so God in turn sows seed in this soil that has been prepared for future blessings.
What the devil used for destruction God turns into a seed bed for his ultimate blessings and prosperity.
C/F Psalm 66.8-12
The bible encourages Christians to count it all joy when we are tried and tested for His name sake.
Therefore, don’t run from God ordained pressure, but like the Moses and the children of Israel, stand by and see the salvation of God. Exodus 14.13
What the devil saw as an opportunity to destroy, God turned into a path of deliverance.

THE BLESSINGS FOR THOSE WHO FEAR THE LORD
Over the years I have heard people preach messages and write books about the fear of the Lord in such a way, that people are moved to operate their life out of legalism, resulting in an exterior of religion, while internally they are burdened by condemnation and shame. Not Good.
THE DEVIL IS A BOX BUILDER WHILE JESUS IS A BOX BREAKER.
The fear of the Lord brings positive results to our lives:
· It is the foundation of wisdom and understanding. Proverbs 15.33
· It keep us from evil and our lives on track Proverbs 14.16
· It is a source of strong confidence Proverbs 14.26
· It is a spring of life Proverbs 14.2
· It inspires us to walk uprightly Proverbs 14.2
· It opens the door to God’s mercy Psalm 103.11
· It brings to our lives riches and honour Proverbs 22.4
I often read these verses and I find myself going, WOW!!!!!!!!
On our journey of ascent, let’s keep our heart open to God and walk in the fear of the Lord.

BUILDING WITH A GODLY PATTERN
The first verse of this Psalm holds the key to a successful life. ‘Unless the Lord builds the house they labour in vain who build it.’
In just about every aspect of life we need a pattern if we are to succeed. I wonder how many of us have attempted to assemble something without following the pattern, only to find we end up in a mess, and are then forced to revert to a piece of paper giving the direction.
Some keys we can learn from this Psalm:
· Govern your own life with Godly instruction so that you will avoid being caught in the trap of striving. It’s vain to rise early and stay up late
· Leaving a legacy is the key to a successful life. Children are a heritage from the Lord.
· A life of significance is better than a life of success.
The bible is full of examples of men and women who built their lives on a Godly pattern.
The Holy Spirit loves to direct the steps of every believer as they travel along the road of ascent.

KEEP HOPE ALIVE; YOU WILL BE REWARDED
For years the children of Israel kept hope alive that one day they would return to Zion, and now they were living in their dream. Joy and laughter overflowed from their lives as they remembered the faithfulness of God.
V5 those who sow in tears shall reap in joy..... And doubtless come again rejoicing
Sowing and reaping is one of the unchanging laws of God, so it is important that we keep hope alive on our journey of ascent.
In Hebrews 6.19 the writer describes hope like an anchor to our soul.
When we labour for what is right, and the tide changes, throw the anchor of hope out, and hold, because there will come a day when you will be rewarded.

THOSE WHO PLACE THEIR TRUST IN THE LORD ARE SECURE
People who have learned to place their trust in God, whatever the circumstances, display an amazing level of security.
On our journey of ascent we are confronted with many wicked forces that seek to derail us from God’s best, but when we take hold of God’s Word and place our trust in Jesus, the Holy Spirit is able to produces a security that is not easily shaken.
The psalmist was able to declare boldly, ‘the sceptre of wickedness shall not rest on the land allotted to the righteous.’
Over the years, I have often found myself writing in my journal, “I am getting better at trusting you Lord Jesus.” The reason he gave for trusting God was, “that the righteous would not reach out their hands to iniquity.”
Many of our mistakes in our journey take place because we won’t simply trust God through the dark tunnels.
“Trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.’ Proverbs 3.5

THE NEED TO ESCAPE
Over thirty years ago I heard a sermon titled ‘An Offense is the Seed of Betrayal.’ As I look back over my life I am ever thankful to God for that message, because it prepared me for one of the most powerful forces that seek to destroy our lives.
The words of David in this Psalm are powerful, “our soul has escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken and we have escaped, our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”
Some of the ‘snares’ of life:
· Holding an offence
Therefore, don’t give the devil
On our journey of ascent, never forget that our help is in ‘the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ.’

HE RESTORES MY SOUL
Don’t become so busy doing the work of the ministry that you forget the ministry of the Holy Spirit in YOU!!!!!!!!
On our journey of ascent, it is vital that we take time out for replenishment and restoration, otherwise we will become overwhelmed by pressure and words of contempt levelled against us.
· We can easily become overwhelmed
· The burden of constant pressure cannot be sustained
· Unnecessary clutter weighs us down
· Word of contempt can distract us from the main thing
Matthew 11.28-30 Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you will recover your life. I will show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me – watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill fitting on you. Keep Company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly. (Message Bible)
Having God moments in the midst of a busy schedule, helps keep our eyes focused and our heart surrendered.

SEEK THE GOOD OF GOD’S HOUSE
'If we build God’s House He will build ours.'
When Jesus walked the earth, His ministry focus was to usher in the Kingdom of God.
Matthew 3.23. And Jesus went about Galilee, teaching their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of diseases among the people.
The Church of Jesus Christ does not exist for itself, but the Father has now empowered the Church with the Holy Spirit to continue the ministry Christ begun and that is to extend the Kingdom reign of Jesus Christ.
In this Psalm David describes:
· the joy he felt in coming to God’s House
· his willingness to build the House of God
· the importance of unity in God’s House (compacted)
· the power of peace to those who dwell in God’s House
· the overflow of prosperity to those who love God’s House
· the influence God’s House inspires to seek the good of our Jerusalem (City)
When they said, “let’s go up to the House of the Lord,” my heart leaped for joy.
Why; because David had Godly purpose. Wow!! What a journey

Even while we are sleeping, The Holy Spirit keeps working, especially for those who keep focused and place their trust in Jesus.
It is so easy to focus on the problems rather than lifting our eyes to the Lord.
I love the words of Jesus in John 5.17; “My Father has been working until now, and have been working.” Psalm 121.3 ‘He who keeps you will not slumber.’
Remaining focused is the platform upon which the Holy Spirit performs miracles.
In the words of the old song, ‘Turn your eyes upon Jesus and look full into His wonderful face and the things of earth grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.’

Over the next 14 days I am reading from the Psalms of Ascent; Psalm 120 - 134.
These are pilgrim songs sung on the way to the House of God. God is challenging me, to be prepared for the next level.
The key verse in this Psalm is verse 6 "my soul has dwelt too long with one who hates peace."
Mesech and Kedar are typical enemies, who forced their way into the kingdom of Judah and troubled the people of God.
Psalm 1 also instructs God's people to watch who they walk, stand, and sit with, because it has a direct result on the level of their well being and prosperity.
To go to the next level, we need to identify the negative forces that are hindering our progress, and then be willing to separate ourselves from them.
Someone said, "show me your friends and I will show you your future."
